Interactivity
  • involve communication between human and human or computer with human
  • involve 5 senses ( visual , audio , contact etc )
  • Game also a interactive process.
  • technology change our way to interact.
  • example of interactivity technology are television, webcam touch-screen device , projector etc.
Pollution
  • major problem in society in every country.
  • there are many type of pollution, air pollution, light pollution, littering, noise pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, thermal pollution, visual pollution, water pollution.
  • The effect of pollution are health problem and environmental problem.
  • pollutant meant waste material.
  • most of the pollution can be cure if we have the recycle practice.* ( own perspective )
Interactive Art
  • separate to new media art and old media art
  • every installation art got its own meaning and its aesthetic purpose.
  • new media installation art can be gallery base, digital base, electronic base, and mobile.
  • target audience, research culture is important in installation art
  • there are many type of installation art, performance art, sound art, street installation conceptual art, video installation and etc.
  • use object as metaphor to bring or communicate the message that the artist wanted to present.* ( own perspective )

Equipment Studies
Mic
microphone (colloquially called a mic or mike is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal.

Webcam

webcam is a video camera that feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, often via USBethernet, or Wi-Fi.
Their most popular use is the establishment of video links, permitting computers to act as videophones or video conference stations. This common use as a video camera for the World Wide Web gave the webcam its name. Other popular uses include security surveillance and computer vision and there is also uses on sites like video broadcasting service and for recording social videos .
Webcams are known for their low manufacturing cost and flexibility, making them the lowest cost form of videotelephony. They have also become a source of security and privacy issues, as some built-in webcams can be remotely activated via spyware.

Speaker

is an electroacoustic transducer that produces sound in response to an electrical audio signal input. Non-electrical loudspeakers were developed as accessories to telephonesystems, but electronic amplification by vacuum tube made loudspeakers more generally useful. The most common form of loudspeaker uses a paper cone supporting a voice coil electromagnet acting on a permanent magnet, but many other types exist. Where accurate reproduction of sound is required, multiple loudspeakers may be used, each reproducing a part of the audible frequency range. Miniature loudspeakers are found in devices such as radio and TV receivers, and many forms of music players. Larger loudspeaker systems are used for music, sound reinforcement in theatres and concerts, and in public address systems.

Sensor

sensor (also called detector) is a device that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument. For example, a mercury-in-glass thermometerconverts the measured temperature into expansion and contraction of a liquid which can be read on a calibrated glass tube. A thermocouple converts temperature to an output voltage which can be read by avoltmeter. For accuracy, most sensors are calibrated against known standards.

Projector

video projector is an image projector that receives a video signal and projects the corresponding image on a projection screen using a lens system. All video projectors use a very bright light to project the image, and most modern ones can correct any curves, blurriness, and other inconsistencies through manual settings. Video projectors are widely used for many applications such as, conference room presentations, classroom training, home theatre and concerts. Projectors are widely used in many schools and other educational settings, sometimes connected to an interactive whiteboard to interactively teach pupils.

Research Analysis

paper pollution

The production and use of paper has a number of adverse effects on the environment which are known collectively as paper pollution. Pulp mills contribute to airwater and land pollution. Discarded paper is a major component of many landfill sites, accounting for about 35 percent by weight of municipal solid waste (before recycling). Even paper recycling can be a source of pollution due to the sludge produced during deinking.
According to a Canadian citizens organization, "People need paper products and we need sustainable, environmentally safe production." The amount of paper and paper products is enormous, so the environmental impact is also very significant. It has been estimated that by 2020 paper mills will produce almost 500,000,000 tons of paper and paperboard per year,[4] so great efforts are needed to ensure that the environment is protected during the production, use and recycling/disposal of this enormous volume of material.
Pulp and paper is the third largest industrial polluter to air, water, and land in both Canada and the United States, and releases well over 100 million kg of toxic pollution each year.
Worldwide, the pulp and paper industry is the fifth largest consumer of energy, accounting for four percent of all the world's energy use. The pulp and paper industry uses more water to produce a ton of product than any other industry.

paper recycling

Paper recycling is the process of recovering waste paper and remaking it into new paper products. There are 3 categories of paper that can be used as feedstocks for making recycled paper: mill broke, pre-consumer waste, and post-consumer waste.Mill broke is paper trimmings and other paper scrap from the manufacture of paper, and is recycled internally in a paper millPre-consumer waste is material which left the paper mill but was discarded before it was ready for consumer use.Post-consumer waste is material discarded after consumer use, such as old corrugated containers (OCC), old magazines, old newspapers (ONP), office paper, oldtelephone directories, and residential mixed paper (RMP).Paper suitable for recycling is called "scrap paper", often used to produce molded pulp packaging. The industrial process of removing printing ink from paperfibers of recycled paper to make deinked pulp is called deinking, an invention of the German jurist Justus Claproth.

Critical Comment on Human Behavior

pollution and recycling activity have a very important relationship with human behavior people attitude and people the way of thinking can change the whole society and environment. Human behavior may different each other by the influence of culture, attitude, value, ethic, social, education etc. we should educate the people on recycle issue and give awareness to the people before it is too late.

Confirmed idea ( we play to save the world )

After discussion and presentation on last week,i decided to use first proposal ( we play to save the world ) I choose this topic because .

Refined Proposal

Topic:
Interactive Recycle Bin

Background:
Due to growing population and increasing consumption, Malaysia generates waste at 19,100 tons per day. In Kuala Lumpur waste generation is about 3,000 tons a day and forecasts shows that this will increase each year.
The disposal of solid waste has been done almost solely through open landfills. The Committee on Solid Waste Management announced in 2006 the closure of 16 open dumpsites and announced again in 2007 a closure of 16 open landfills. Another 17 open landfills out of a total of 155 are expected to be shut down. There will be a need to build further sanitary landfills and incinerator plants to prevent water contamination and environmental pollution.
The Government has now focused on reuse, reduction and recycling of materials and promotes companies that undertake these activities.

Aim:
create a new experience and give people awareness on the important of recycle through the new media technology

Objective:
-to encourage people to recycle.
-to give people awareness on pollution and environmental issue.
-to let people have new experience when they do recycle.

Problem Identification:
Environmental issue always the troublesome issue in the society nowadays, especially at the urban area, government and NGO ( Non Government Organisation ) try best to solve the problem. Environmental issue not only make the society become a filthy city but also decline the living of standard of that community. Natural ecology also affected by environmental issue.By using the advantage of technology available i hope this installation can evoke the important of recycle or environmental .

Project title:
We play to save to earth.

Idea and Concept:
For this project, i want to create an installation that allow user to interact and have fun when recycle. The installation will focus down on paper.

Target Audience:
to the people who live in urban area who live in digital world.

Motivation:
As we can see nowadays, disaster like flash flood, earthquake, tsunami, global warming.People healthy and safety level are keep decline day by day.it all begin with human attitude. I hope, by using the technology, we can warn and prevent all this before it is too late. We can also change the thinking of people that recycle can be actually fun and excited.

Review Analysis and precedence studies:

The rubbish after the a concert.

The rubbish thrown and unprocessed.

The worlds deepest bin

To throw rubbish in the bin instead of onto the floor shouldn’t really be so hard. Many people still fail to do so. Can we get more people to throw rubbish into the bin, rather than onto the ground, by making it fun to do? See the results here ( from http://thefuntheory.com/ )

Many of us return our plastic bottles and cans. Noticeably fewer recycle their glass. Maybe that's because we don't get any money in return, as we do for cans and plastic. Can we change this attitude by making recycling glass fun to do? So you are not just rewarded with a good conscience, you also get a smile. See the results here.
